Algae-Eating Hermit Crabs are hardworking and fascinating marine invertebrates, prized for their natural ability to keep aquariums clean. These small but active crabs spend their days scuttling over rocks and substrate, feeding on nuisance algae, detritus, and leftover food. Their quirky behaviour and practical usefulness make them a popular choice for reef and marine aquariums.

Very active, constantly foraging over rocks, sand, and glass. They require access to a variety of empty shells as they grow, since they change shells regularly.

Special Requirements or Care Notes:

• Provide a selection of empty shells of different sizes to prevent aggression.

• They are excellent members of a “clean-up crew” for controlling algae and waste.

• Avoid housing with aggressive predators (e.g., certain wrasse, triggers, or puffers).
